A Pelican Rapids man was sentenced in Otter Tail County District Court to 24 months in prison for felony drug possession.
Edwin Benjamin Nelson, 30, pleaded guilty and was sentenced June 7 for felony fifth-degree drug possession.
According to the criminal complaint, Fergus Falls police came across Nelson in his parked vehicle at about 5:40 a.m. Jan. 12 on the westbound exit ramp from Interstate 94 at Lincoln Avenue. Officers reportedly checked on the vehicle due to the inclement weather. Nelson was reportedly in the driver’s seat with the engine running, his eyes shut and smelling of alcohol.
Police searched the vehicle and conducted a pat-down of Nelson. A methamphetamine pipe was found in his pocket, and two other pipes were in the vehicle, along with three baggies of meth totaling 1.3 grams and a digital scale.
Nelson was convicted Feb. 23, 2002 of a third-degree controlled substance crime.
