Norma was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Graceville, the daughter of D.N. and Clara (Pederson) Twait.
Norma graduated from Chokio High School in 1942. She attended and graduated from Concordia College with a degree in home economics in 1946.
Following graduation she accepted the job of Home Extension Agent for Wilkin County in Breckenridge.
She married John Shelstad Jan. 1, 1949, in Chokio and the couple made their home in Mayville, N.D.
They moved to Kenyon in 1953 where they have made their home ever since.
In retirement the couple bought a lake home near Big Lake on Otter Tail Lake where they enjoyed many summers and time with their family.
Norma was an exceptional homemaker. She focused on being a great mom and was always willing to help out with the work on the farm as needed. She was an excellent baker known for her fresh bread and cinnamon rolls.
Norma hosted many family gatherings and made sure everyone was well taken care of. She loved the time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren.
Norma belonged to First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had a very strong faith and enjoyed quilting in the Priscilla Club. Norma was a kind person who was easy to get to know and loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, John Shelstad of Kenyon; daughters, Koreen (Dale) Harstad of Dickinson, Texas, Kirsten Shelstad of Albequerque, N.M., Kaia (Bruce) Bergeson of Montevideo, Karla (Jeff) Siem of Falcon Heights; a son-in-law, Scott Hilleren of Duluth; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons, Daniel Shelstad and Rolf Shelstad; and a daughter, Kerry Hilleren.
Visitation: Was Saturday, June 29, and today one hour prior to the service at the church
