Pelican Rapids-based artist Marcella Rose is among the participants in this summer’s studio tour sponsored by the Battle Lake-based Art of the Lakes Association. Rose will host an open studio at her studio-home on Prairie Lake, 43005 Highway 59, just north of Pelican Rapids Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 19-21.
Rose, a native of Big Stone County, lived and worked in several western locales — including Phoenix, Kansas City, Spokane and Santa Fe — prior to returning to the Upper Midwest.
Following a a diverse career in commercial art, advertising and product design, she now focuses on the creation of fine art – particularly oil paintings, sculpture and jewelry design.
Her work is carried by several galleries in the Upper Midwest and Pacific Northwest.
During the July open house, visitors can view an outdoor-indoor exhibition of Rose’s original oil paintings, as well as her cast jewelry designs and a sculpture in progress.
Along with her ‘Spirit of Nature’ series of over-sized paintings of horses, bison and waterfowl, she also is displaying several ‘CellaScapes, a new series of especially affordable contemporary paintings.
Hours for the open studio are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
