Funeral services were held for Virgil Anderson on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Henning with Pastor Rud Wasson Jr. officiating. The pallbearers were Bruce Roberts, Greg Roberts, Scott Peterson, Todd FitzGibbons, Barry FitzGibbons and Rod Moen. Virgil was laid to rest on July 10, 2013 with Honors and the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, Minnesota.
Virgil Wayne Anderson was born on June 5, 1929 in Clitherall, Minnesota. His parents were the late Selmer and Mabel Lillian (Oak) Anderson. Virgil was baptized on August 25, 1929 at Folden Evangelical Lutheran Church in Otter Tail County. He was confirmed on September 5, 1943 at Nidaros Lutheran Church.
Virgil honorably served in the United States Army from October 7, 1948 to July 10, 1952. On August 24, 1950 Virgil was married to Delores (Olson) Herbranson in Henning. They were married for 31 years and raised 3 children: Kathy, Michael and Tony. Virgil was employed with Feed & Seed in Minneapolis and then made his home in Clitherall. He was employed with Ken Lohse for many years and also Henning Agriculture Service
On December 28, 1985 Virgil was married to Anita KoePal at Grace Lutheran Church in Henning. Together Virgil and Anita joined families, caring for each as their own and making their home in Clitherall for 20 years. On their 10 year anniversary Anita and Virgil repeated their vows at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake. For a short time Virgil and Anita made their home at Summit Village, Pioneer Care Center and Willow Creek before moving to Staples in 2012.
Virgil loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed wood working, polka dances and is a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Henning.
Virgil passed away on July 5, 2013 at Lakewood Care Center in Staples at 84 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Virgil in death were his parents and an infant son.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Anita Anderson of Staples; daughter, Kathy Anderson of Jacksonville, Florida; sons, Michael (Sandy) Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Tony Anderson of Tampa, Florida; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian (Verlye) Roberts of Brainerd, and LaVae (Rod) Moen of Fergus Falls; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Arrangements were provided by the Belmont Funeral Home of Henning.
