Evelyn Corene Thorson was born on February 22, 1933 at home in Folden Township. Her parents were Palmer and Perna (Harris) Thorson.
Evelyn graduated from the Henning High School with the class of 1952.
She continued her education with Fergus Falls Teachers Training and Moorhead State College. Evelyn taught for two years at country school at Rothsay and Battle Lake.
The Battle Lake Country School is on display at the Dalton Thresherman’s Show. Her parents died when she was a child and she was raised by her aunt and uncle Melvin and Lula Thorson.
On March 25, 1956, Evelyn married Russell Bjorklund at United Lutheran Church, now known as Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning. Their marriage was blessed by five children.
Together Evelyn and Russell farmed and raised their family in rural Henning.
In their later years, they enjoyed spending 14 winters in Arizona.
Russell passed away on Jan. 28, 2011.
Evelyn enjoyed attending threshing events, especially Western Minnesota Steam Threshing Reunion at Rollag where she was a member for the past two years and attended with her family since it began in the 1950s.
She also enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary in Henning and Deer Creek.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; husband, Russell; a brother, Elmer Thorson; a brother-in-law, Marlow Bjorkland; and grandson-in-law, Scott Springer.
Evelyn is survived by her five children, Rodney Bjorklund of Henning, Roxane (Darrell) Malland of Cyrus, Rance Bjorklund of Henning, Rian Bjorklund of Wilmar and Ricky (Alicia) Bjorklund of Lake In The Hills, Ill.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many other relatives; and a host of friends.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Henning
