Flyers take 3 firsts at Class C meetPublished 10:31am Monday, July 15, 2013
BIG LAKE — The Fergus Falls Flyers saw three swimmers capture first place finishes in the Minnesota Class C state meet over the weekend.
The Flyers’ Svea Smestad, Justin and Michael Mortenson each finished in first in their events.
Smestad’s time of :36.26 was her best time and gave her a first place medal in the 50 meter freestyle in the 10-year-old bracket. Justin Mortenson’s 6:07 in the 500 meter freestyle gave him the top finish in the 14-year-old bracket, while Michael Mortenson finished with a time of 1:06.36 in the 100 meter freestyle for first in the 16-year-old bracket.
The Flyers also saw other swimmers record best times at the meet including third-place finisher Evan Aanerud (:33.55, 50 freestyle), fourth-place finisher Aaron Erlandson (1:25.28,100 breaststroke) , Ethan Ness (sixth, :39.38, 50 freestyle) and Alanna Keller (12th, :42.7, 50 backstroke).
“These swimmers did an awesome job with a combine 10 Time Drops,” Flyers’ coach Tom Uvaas said. “Some made B times to have the option to go on in that event at A/B State.”
The Flyers will also venture to Island Park in Fargo Wednesday for a meet, while qualifiers for the Class A/B state meet will travel to Richfield Saturday.
Class C State Meet results:
Age 10: Svea Smestad – 1st, 50 freestyle, :36.26; Ehan Ness – 6th, 50 freestyle, :39.38.
Age 11: Alanna Keller – 12th, 50 backstroke :42.7.
Age 13: Aaron Erlandson – 4th, 100 breaststroke, 1:25.28.
Age 14: Evan Aanerud – 3rd, 50 freestyle, :33.55; Justin Mortenson – 1st , 500 freestyle, 6:07.13.
Age 16: Michael Mortenson – 1st, 100 backstroke, 1:06.36.
