OTCHS tour planned in Battle Lake [UPDATED]Published 9:31am Friday, July 19, 2013 Updated 11:36am Friday, July 19, 2013
Join Otter Tail County Historical Society Executive Director Chris Schuelke as he leads a tour of historic downtown Battle Lake 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 26. The tour will meet at the Battle Lake Community Center.
Although many downtown buildings have been changed or altered over the years, there are still some that retain their historic character.
We will point out details and characteristics that go largely unnoticed as people go about their daily routines.
During the tour people will discover facts and hear stories that define the community’s history. Which building in Battle Lake had the same architect as the Fergus Falls State Hospital? Which Battle Lake business was owned by man who was a champion professional wrestler? Which downtown building was the first to have electric lights? This tour will answer these questions and more.
The tour will end up with an open house at the Prospect House where light refreshments will be served.
Kick off Wenonga Days with this fascinating look at Battle Lake history. Admission is $6; no reservations are required. For more information, call 736-6038 or visit www.otchs.org.
