Published 11:13am Tuesday, July 23, 2013

The hilarious Tony award-winning musical comedy, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” will be on stage at the Fergus Theatre, starring all local talent.

Performances are July 25 through July 28 and Aug. 2 through Aug. 4. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m. Sundays.

The cast includes Hazen Roller-Olson, Betsy Ostenson, Erik Virgiels, Joe Johnson, Catherine Burgraff, Lexi Wedll, Aimee Norland, Rick Schara, Ben Walkup, Drew Ross, Connor Murphy and Marna Brown.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is a funny tale of overachievers’ angst, chronicling the experience of six adolescents vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

The show’s creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

The six young competitors, in the throes of puberty and overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

This summer musical is sponsored in part by Lake Region Healthcare.

Some content of this play may not be suitable for all audiences. The alternate version of the play will be performed on Sundays. For more information on the show, visit: www.mtishows.com/show

Music and lyrics are by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin, conceived by Rebecca Feldman, and additional material by Jay Reiss.
