CPR given in one diving accident on Otter Tail Lake

Two men were injured in separate diving accidents Thursday, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

A 35-year-old Breckenridge man dove head first off a dock into water that was approximately 3 feet deep in the east side of Otter Tail Lake at about 9:30 p.m., according to a news release. A witness noticed he was unconscious after the dive and brought him to shore.

The man was alert for a short period of time, then became short of breath. He then stopped breathing and lost his pulse. Bystanders administered CPR and his pulse and breathing were restored.

The man was transported by Perham Ambulance and then by Life Flight to North Memorial.

A 23-year-old man was also injured when he jumped off a dock into shallow water on Lake Lizzie at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Water patrol responded to the scene, and he was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.

The conditions of the men were not known Friday morning.

Any 35 year old male who dives head first into three feet of water should be kept for observation of other conditions which were most likely present prior to the dive. Such as drunkenness or stupidity, or a combination of both.

Richard, you are such a jerk.

      • Richard Olson

O.K. Robert, who is supposedly not a jerk, lets hear your defense of diving into three feet of water, head first.

      • kamso21

Be careful, Robert. You’re talking to someone who has never done anything stupid in his life. He’s too straight legged.

Some people get caught up in a moment of having fun, or showing off, that they don’t realize what they are getting themselves into.

Oh and don’t forget drugs in the combination..

        • Richard Olson

“Some people get caught up in a moment of having fun, or showing off, that they don’t realize what they are getting themselves into.
Oh and don’t forget drugs in the combination..”

I’ll have to take your word for that, Kam so. You seem to know what you’re talking about.

          • kamso21

You seem to know EVERYTHING. It’s almost like you’re God or something? You must have been there, or are you assuming? You know what happens when you assume.. it makes an ass out of you and me. But you just keep being your righteous self.

      • tomdaniels

richard were you there? i didnt think so, stop acting like a raving lunatic and dont throw stones in your little glass house.

        • Richard Olson

Hey Tom Daniels, since you’re the new Sherriff I have to wonder why you aren’t over at that article about some guy blowing off two of his fingers with fireworks in Dilworth. After all someone made a sarcastic comment that people who do things like that are “brilliant people”. How come you’re not over there ragging on him?

Sounds to me like you “outrage” is somewhat more selective than your feigned sophistication.

  • Elliot Dallavalle

I wouldn’t disregard Richard’s comment. The facts of the article leads one to conclude that a person diving into the water at 9:30 pm could conceivably have consumed several alcoholical beverages and decided now is the time to go swimming. Stupid decisions do generally occur when too many beers are consumed beforehand.

However, on that note, careful actions are necessary in the event of a trauma such as this, mainly to ensure that the neck must be immobilized to prevent paralysis because of the nature of the injury. I doubt that that was considered during the recovery but let’s hope that this individual is alright and learned from his mistake. But drunkenness and stupidity go hand in hand. If you have the prior, the latter soon follows.

Lighten up Kam So, you’re not the only one with an opinion. Were you the one who took the dive?

  • kamso21

I never said I was the only one with an opinion. But he always seems to be the only one with an opinion. Anyone else voices theirs and it’s the end of the world. But no I was not there and neither were you. I’ve gone swimming after 9 P.M. and have not consumed any alcohol. I’m just saying don’t assume that every dumb action someone does is alcohol influenced. All I’m saying. Maybe you all need to lighten up lol.

    • Richard Olson

Try to follow along Kam So. The comment section is for people who wish to comment. Most people who do comment have an opinion or they would not comment. When I post a comment, many times people disagree with me and say so. The reverse happens also. I have no problem with anyone who disagrees with me, that doesn’t mean I can’t answer their comment and they mine.

Your petty problem with me started because I made a comment about the noise at the VFW. You disagreed with me there and carried your juvenile animosity over to this article. If you can’t stand disagreement or arguments perhaps you should confine your reading to the cartoon section, because I’m going to continue to make comments when and where I have an opinion. So get used to it.

Ordinarily I find Richard to be quite the D-bag, but I must reluctantly agree with his original comment. Robt and Cam DO have a point tho. I see his blather on too many articles. Reminds me of “pam carlson” who blames everything on DRUGS!!!

    • Elliot Dallavalle

That’s so big of you Don.

    • Richard Olson

“I see his blather on too many articles.” Have you been restricted in the number of comments you are allowed to make Don? Was it possible for you to make a comment on every article I commented on? I think your problem lies not with the number of comments I make but rather in the substance of those comments and your inability to counter them with your own argument. You and Kam So seem to have the same problem. You don’t like it when anyone disagrees with you. And all you can do is call them a D-bag.

      • tomdaniels

d-bag hahahahaha, if the shoe fits richard
