Frances Harris Sethre was born in 1927, in Fayetteville, N.C., and died on June 29, 2013, in Arden Hills.0714.obit.Sethre

She was proud of her Southern heritage and traced her family back 13 generations. She attended Carleton College and met many wonderful, lifelong friends there. She also met her husband, Arthur Sethre, there and they were married for 64 years.

Fran went on to graduate with an M.A. in education from the University of Minnesota, and taught elementary school while Art completed his medical training at the U. They relocated to Fergus Falls, where Art began his medical practice and their family grew to include three children and many pets.

Fran made many lifelong friends there and enjoyed summers at the family’s summer home at the Swan Lake Club.

The family relocated to St. Paul when Art began a second career at 3M.

Fran provided enthusiastic support and went on to make many new friends in their new community, North Oaks.

Fran enjoyed book club, bridge, and golf. Retirement included living for several years in Pinehurst, N.C., where Fran reconnected with her Southern roots and her extended family in the region.

When Fran’s health began failing she and Art returned to St. Paul, but she continued to be active with family and friends.

She particularly enjoyed time with her only grandchild, Aric Sethre, of Warwick, N.Y., and her Carlton alumni group, including planning and participating in their 60th reunion.

Fran is survived by Art and three children, Richard (Marilou); Mary/Polly; and Robert (Rita, and son Aric). She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Thomas Harris, of Hamlet, N.C.
