‘Putnam Spelling Bee’ opens tonight [UPDATED]

The hilarious Tony award-winning musical comedy, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” will be on stage at the Fergus Theatre, starring all local talent.

Performances are July 25 through July 28, and Aug. 2 through Aug. 4. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m. Sundays.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is a funny tale of overachievers’ angst, chronicling the experience of six adolescent vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

The show’s creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.
