ELBOW LAKE — Two Grant County senior citizens were named outstanding seniors at the fair and will go on to compete at the Minnesota State Fair opening at the end of August.
Rosella “Rosie” Sax and Bill Nelson have contributed thousands of hours of volunteer service. They were nominated by Elbow Lake Senior Citizens Club president Ginny Wall.
Sax is a long-time nurse and Nelson is a retired farmer and owned a sand and gravel business. Sax is a member of the Sister City organization, is active in her church where she has served on the council and quilting groups. She was also a Luther League advisor for 15 years.
Nelson served 14 years on the Elbow Lake City Council and 25 years on the Municipal Airport Board. He was instrumental in building the beach at Tipsinah Mounds Campgrounds and helped organize hunter safety programs in the state. Among other activities, he was a member and officer in the Elbow Lake Lions Club and the Tipsinah Mounds Golf Club, helping to build the course. Additionally, he was chairman of the local Red Cross, and served on his church council, with the March of Dimes and was a founder of the Elbow Lake Area Community Council.
