Plane crashes on Loon Lake [UPDATED]Published 10:00am Monday, August 12, 2013 Updated 12:10pm Monday, August 12, 2013
A 60-year-old Wahpeton man was not injured after the plane he was flying crashed on the southeast side of Loon Lake Saturday morning, according to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
The pilot tried to take off from the water on Loon Lake around 11 a.m. Just as the plane reached enough speed to take off, about 35 mph, it veered sharply to the right causing the crash.
The 2006 Airborne Ultra-Lite plane was totaled. The pilot reportedly thought the plane had a mechanical problem but won’t know more until he can inspect the plane. The plane was towed to shore with the help of local boat owners, Vergas Fire and Rescue and the Otter Tail County Water Patrol. Perham Ambulance and sheriff’s deputies also responded to the scene.
