Published 9:14am Monday, August 26, 2013

A five-run second inning put the Fergus Falls Canes in front of the Union Hill Bulldogs in the team’s first game of the Class “C” State Baseball Tournament on Saturday. The Canes held the Bulldogs to just one run, winning the game 9-1.

Darin Stanislawski lead off the second with a double. Dan Revering followed by reaching first after an error by the second baseman, allowing Stanislawski to advance to third. A groundout by Jake Erickson scored Stanislawski and moved Revering to second.

The scoring continued after a Casey Bovkoon single scored Revering. With the bases loaded, Alex Hensch drew a walk to force a run to make the game 3-0. A single by Jake Heck scored two more runs.

The Bulldogs would get a run in the sixth, but could only manage six hits off starting Canes pitcher Casey Kowalski. Kowalski pitched six innings, notching four strikeouts and two walks in the win.

Bovkoon’s bat led the Canes in scoring, as he went 3-4 with a double, scoring two runs and thee RBI. Revering went 2-4 and accounted for three of the Canes’ runs.

Fergus advances to play the Dumont Saints in Delano at 1:30 p.m Saturday.
