Hornets take 3 games from ChargersPublished 9:47am Wednesday, August 28, 2013
The visiting Henning Hornets swept the Barndon/Evansville Chargers 3-0 to open its 2013 volleyball season on Tuesday night.
The Hornets started the night off with a 25 to 16 victory in the first set.
In the second, the Chargers kept it close, but Henning out-powered its host and claimed a 25 to 23 win.
The third set was a repeat of the first, as the Hornets claimed the set and the match with a 25-16 score.
Caroline Jansen led the Charger attack with 11 kills.
Kinsley Randt helped the Chargers with 19 assists.
On defense, Megan Kokett put forward a 14 dig performance. Mariah Hansen followed up with nine.
“The girls played hard tonight but just couldn’t put together any consistency in their play,” said Charger head coach Kelly Olson. “Our passing breakdowns also helped keep us from running what we wanted to. At times we looked very good, which tells me we just need to stay focused on the court and do the little things that will help us be successful.”
The 3-0 victory was exactly the start the Hornets were looking for after a strong 2013 season. Olson credited the Hornet’s blocking at the net with forcing his team out of its system and said they also controlled the ball much better as a team.
The Hornets travel to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. match up.
Brandon/Evansville welcomes the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets for their second home game of the season on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
