The Hillcrest/Pelican Rapids boys soccer team continues to show why it is a threat to any soccer team in the area as it defeated the Detroit Lakes Lakers 12-0 Thursday afternoon.
Chris Pellegrino got the Comets on the board in the first half knocking in a perfect pass from Kevin Franco. Pellegrino would score again a minute later off a punt by keeper Abdul Ahmed. Eric Diaz continued to put pressure on the Laker defense and found the back of the net for Hillcrest’s third goal, while Sondra Harila added the Comets four goal.
Pellegrino would record a hat trick as he knocked in a pass from Kevin Franco at 24 minute mark. The two would duplicate the play as Pellegrino scored his fourth goal of the game. Franco would finally get his own goal at the 32 minute mark. Senior Caleb Mathison scored his first varsity goal at the 35 minute mark, while Harila would add his second goal of the day before the half.
Pellegrino continued to find the next in the second half as he tallied his fifth goal of the game. Gjermond Saevig and Franco would close out Hillcrest’s scoring in the game.
Pellegrino finished the game with five goals, while teammate Franco recorded two goals and four assists.
Ahmed and Daniel Grytten combined for the shutout after Ahmed left the game with an injury.
In its last three games, the Comets have not allowed a goal and have outscored opponents 27-0.
The Comets will now have a break before hitting the pitch again as it will hit the road for the first time against the Crookston Pirates Thursday at 4 p.m.
