A bicyclist suffered severe injuries, including a broken leg and facial lacerations, after he was hit by a car Friday morning, according to Fergus Falls police.

The 48-year-old Fergus Falls man rode southbound on Friberg Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. when a northbound vehicle attempting to turn onto Northern Avenue hit the bicyclist. Speed doesn’t appear to be a factor, because the driver reportedly didn’t see the cyclist, who was law abiding, according to police.

Seeing the collision, a driver of a pickup truck headed south on Friberg, hit the brakes and was rear-ended by a loaded dump truck, causing substantial damage.

The cyclist was wearing a helmet, which was reportedly cracked following the collision.

The 67-year-old Fergus Falls man driving the car that hit the cyclist was cited.

Ringdahl Ambulance transported the cyclist, who was conscious at the scene, to Lake Region Healthcare.

There were no other injuries.
