Casey’s and Muscular Dystrophy Association help kids go to camp [UPDATED]

Published 9:29am Monday, August 5, 2013 Updated 11:35am Monday, August 5, 2013

The Muscular Dystrophy Association and Casey’s General Stores are teaming up this summer to “Make a Muscle, Make a Difference” and help send kids in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota affected by neuromuscular disease to MDA summer camp.

Starting Aug. 1 through Sept. 2, customers visiting Casey’s General Stores can show their support for MDA by purchasing and signing a $1 or $5 MDA summer camp mobile with their purchase at participating locations across the Midwest.

Local stores included in the promotion are located in Moorhead, Dilworth, Detroit Lakes, Lark Park, New York Mills, Horace, Morris, Fergus Falls and Appleton.

“Camp is the best week of the year for our kids and it wouldn’t be possible without support from sponsors like Casey’s General Stores and all of their generous customers,” said MDA Executive Director Sue Wiger.

“With their help, we hope to send some very special kids to MDA camp for an unforgettable week. Thirty-five kids from our area had this opportunity in June of 2013.”

Families served by MDA will benefit from every mobile sold, and in return, customers will receive a special “Buy One, Get One Free” free coupon from 7-Up.

MDA summer camp offers a wide range of activities specially designed for youngsters who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. Each year, campers have an unmatched opportunity to develop lifelong friendships, share interests and build self-confidence.

It costs an average of $800 per camper to send a child affected by a neuromuscular disease to camp at no cost to their family. The summer camps also offer a week of respite for campers’ parents, who often serve as full-time caregivers for their children.

More than 1,700 Casey’s General Store locations across the Midwest hope to collectively raise $1 million for MDA.
