Comet girls fall 8-1 to Johnnies

Published 11:07am Friday, August 30, 2013

COLLEGEVILLE — After a flat start, the Comets were unable to rally back as the St. John’s Prep Johnnies took the game 8-1.

The Johnnies were able to gain a great advantage with a 5-0 first half lead.

“After waiting all morning for a decision on whether to push the game time back due to the heat index, the decision was finally made to keep the game time as it was,” Comets’ coach Cara Kline. “We came out a bit sluggish in the first half and it shows in the score, but despite the high humidity, high temperatures and tons of mosquitoes, the second half we pulled it together and evened up the playing field a little more.”

This proved to be true as the Comets were able to make a mark on the scoreboard as Solveig Bech dished a pass to Kevy Konynenbelt for the Comets lone score in the game.

Hillcrest goalie Emma Royce turned away 23 shots on goal.

The Comets will get a bit of a break before the next game as it hosts Detroit Lakes Thursday at 4 p.m.
