Highway 78 detour between Perham and Ottertail begins Aug. 12

Published 11:40am Tuesday, August 6, 2013

Motorists on Highway 78 between Perham and Ottertail will encounter a detour and delays when a road resurfacing and culvert replacement project begins Aug. 12, weather permitting.

During this phase of the Highway 78 project, crews will replace several culverts north of Ottertail. Highway 78 will close, and motorists will use a detour.

Southbound traffic from Perham will detour east onto Highway 10 to New York Mills, south on County Road 67 and west on County Road 52/Highway 108 to Ottertail. Northbound traffic will follow the same detour in reverse.

Only local residents and motorists accessing businesses located within the closure area may use Highway 78. The road will not be passable at culvert replacement sites.

The detour will last approximately three weeks.

In late August, Highway 78 from Ottertail to Battle Lake will close for culvert replacement work and road reconstruction in downtown Battle Lake. Resurfacing of Highway 78 from Perham to Battle Lake will begin after culverts are replaced.

More information about the project is available at www.mndot.gov/ d4/projects/hwy78. The website includes a link to sign up for weekly project updates by email.
