It’s rodeo time!

Published 11:05am Monday, August 5, 2013

The ninth annual Red Horse Ranch PRCA Rodeo will roll into Fergus Falls Friday and Saturday. This year’s event will include several world-ranked competitors making an appearance.

Fans may watch and cheer as the country’s top professional rodeo athletes compete in the sport of our American heritage for a chance to ride in the National Finals in Las Vegas. This is a family event, open to all ages.

The RHRA grounds, located along the Otter Tail River just north of Fergus Falls, serve as the setting for this outdoor event.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. nightly, with rodeo action beginning at 7 p.m.

The public is encouraged to come early to check out a variety of vendors and enjoy food concessions and beer gardens on site.

Both nights will feature the country’s best rodeo athletes competing in bareback riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, saddle bronc, team roping, barrel racing and of course, bull riding.

Friday will feature the “Wild Cow Ride,” where local teams of three will compete to be the first to saddle and ride their cow across the finish line. Team “Mule-Skinner” from the Frazee area has been the winner three years in a row, and will be returning this year.

“It seems to be a great crowd-pleaser. People really enjoy watching and cheering the guys on,” Nicole Rostad, office manager at the RHR, said of the Wild Cow Ride.

“Tough Enough To Wear Pink Night” will be the feature on Saturday, Aug. 10, with fans and participants decked out in pink to show their support for breast cancer awareness and education. Two dollars from each ticket sold will be donated to the Lake Region Hospital Foundation Cancer Care and Research Center, as well as raffles and other activities presented by the Pink Posse.

The arena features unlimited hillside seating; don’t forget to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Bleachers are also available. Call 218-736-3000 for information about VIP seating.

Professional rodeo announcer Kelly Kenney will be back in the arena to bring it all together.

Everyone is also invited to dance to the music of “Fat Daddy’s” each night following the rodeo, included with every ticket.

Sponsoring the event is the Ram Rodeo Series, which will provide the Ram Trucks display, where fans can enter to win $45,000 towards any eligible Chrysler vehicle.

The Ram Rodeo Series was created to be an experience to showcase the sport as it blends local dealer involvement, while paving the way for future generations of cowboys and cowgirls through scholarships, auctions and various initiatives.

The Ram Rodeo event starts at 8 p.m. nightly with live event categories.

Tickets for the 2013 PRCA Rodeo are on sale now at RHRA, The Market in Fergus Falls or at the gate. RHRA is located on Highway 10, about six miles north of Fergus Falls. For more information, call 218-736-3000 or visit
