Bike trail idea worth pursuing [UPDATED]Published 4:34am Tuesday, September 3, 2013 Updated 6:40am Tuesday, September 3, 2013
The idea of connecting Pelican Rapids to Perham via a bicycle trail that meanders through Maplewood State Park is a good one, spending what is a relatively small $66,000 to study the feasibility of it is certainly worthwhile.
Bicycling continues to grow in popularity, and bicycling enthusiasts are always looking for new territory to explore. The stretch between Pelican Rapids, passing through many lakes, hills and wooded areas, is a picturesque and potentially enjoyable experience for a bicycle ride.
There are certainly many obstacles to making the trail a reality – agreement between landowners and government agencies and the millions in public and private funding required.
Even if the study may discover that a trail simply isn’t feasible, it’s worth it. The economic benefits to such a trail far outweigh the financial investment so far.
