It was a nail biter in Brandon, as the Ashby Arrows and Brandon-Evansville played a game that was decided in the final minutes. The Chargers walked away with a 26-22 victory on their home field.
Ashby opened the game with a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. Quarterback Blake Ohren broke an 82 yard run for a touchdown at the 11 minute mark. Ohren would find receiver Zach Barry for another big play, throwing a 68 yard catch and run for the score.
The Chargers scored again in the second quarter, however, and the two teams entered the locker room deadlocked at 14-14.
Defense took over in the second half, as both teams failed to score in the third quarter. After the Chargers took the lead in the fourth, the Arrows would respond with a score of their own, as Ohren found receiver Reed Hanson for a twenty yard score. Ohren ran in for the two-point conversion and the Arrows took a 22-20 lead with just 2:27 left to go in the game.
On the ensuing kickoff, however, James Huisman returned the ball 76 yards for the score and the lead. The Charger defense would hold strong in the final two minutes and the team celebrated their second win on the season.
Ohren went 12-23 and threw for 208 yards in the game. He also threw for two touchdowns. Ohren also led the team in rushing with 117 total yards and a score on the ground. Hunter Fick carried the ball 10 times for 80 yards.
Barry led the Arrow receivers with five catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. Hanson followed with six catches for 53 yards and a score.
The Arrows host the Hillcrest Comets next Friday. Brandon-Evansville travels to Hancock to face the Owls. Both games are set to start at 7 p.m.
