Driver in Pelican murder conspiracy plot pleads guiltyPublished 10:56am Tuesday, September 10, 2013
Another person involved in a murder conspiracy plot from last October in Pelican Rapids pleaded guilty Monday in Otter Tail County District Court.
Kevin Forer, 19, of Fergus Falls, pleaded guilty Sept. 9 to an amended charge of felony first-degree aggravated robbery. The original charges of felony second-degree conspiracy to commit murder and felony first-degree conspiracy to commit assault were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Forer was allegedly one of eight people, including three juveniles, involved in the plot that involved robbing and burning a house in Pelican Rapids, and murdering the occupants.
According to the criminal complaint, the group drove two vehicles to a Pelican Rapids home Oct. 4, 2012 and brought along a crow bar, bear mace, a lead pipe, a knife, a machete, a metal baseball bat, gasoline and a gun.
The plan was to kill everyone inside and burn down the house.
In court Monday, Forer testified that he was one of the drivers and was in his car the entire time. He added that the group was going to the residence to recover some stolen items, including two ounces of marijuana, a laptop and a backpack.
“They asked me to give them a ride to Pelican Rapids,” Forer said, and they wanted a group of people there in case a fight broke out.
“I knew what they were going there to get,” Forer said. “I didn’t know their actual full intentions. I didn’t know they had weapons of any sort.”
One of the house’s occupants, Fikret Saric, walked into the front yard and fired two gunshots, one of which struck the passenger side front door of one of the vehicles. The alleged motive in the case was to retrieve stolen marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a drug deal gone bad.
Forer’s sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 18.
