City council hears from angry Grant County campers [UPDATED]Published 9:25am Friday, September 13, 2013 Updated 11:26am Friday, September 13, 2013
After last month’s decision to raise rent for seasonal campers at Tipsinah Mounds Campground, the Elbow Lake City Council heard from a group of displeased campers at the Sept. 10 meeting.
A group spokesman appeared before the council and said after checking around at other campgrounds, the group found the $300 annual increase to be too high. Instead, the group proposed a $125 rent increase, which the council denied.
Both on-lake and off-lake properties will see a $300 rent increase. On-lake property sites will now cost $2,125 annually, while off-lake will cost $2,025 each year.
Council members said the reason for the $300 increase was because of last year’s rent freeze, which they said may have been a bad decision. Property owners will now have to bear a larger one-year increase than if the rents had gone up over the course of two years.
