Henning City Council lowers preliminary tax levyPublished 11:01am Friday, September 13, 2013
Henning taxpayers can count on a slight decrease in their 2014 taxes after the city council approved a lower preliminary tax levy.
The levy cannot be increased at this point, but it could still be decreased further before final approval in December.
The approved 2014 tax levy is $171,062.20, almost $600 lower than last year’s levy. The decreased levy comes even with an approximately $31,800 revenue increase for the year.
Along with the tax levy, the council approved a slight increase in both residential and commercial water rates for the next year. Residential customers will see their rates go from $33.60 to $35 per month, while commercial rates will go from $40 to $41.50 per month.
Council members said the increase is necessary to fund a new water and sewer project planned for the next few years. The hope is that these increased monthly rates will provide nearly all the funding for the project.
