Bulldogs defense comes unchained, blanks Eagles 27-0

NEW YORK MILLS — Usually, losing the turnover battle means that you will walk off the field with a loss. On Friday, the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs decided to put that theory to the test — and came out victorious. After turning the ball over five times compared to twice by the New York Mills Eagles, OTC Head Coach Don Seipkes and the Bulldogs were grinning ear to ear with a 27-0 road win.

After battling through the first quarter to a stalemate, the Bulldogs were able to break onto the scoreboard as quarterback Andrew Smith found Tyler Ukkelberg for a 47 yard touchdown pass. This would be the only score of the first half as OTC went into the break up 7-0.

The second half began much like the first as both teams battled back and forth with neither team finding the endzone.

Tony Ukkelberg would get the Bulldogs back on the board in the fourth quarter as he took a punt 68 yards across the goal line. The momentum continued to build for the Bulldogs as Nick Trosdahl plowed through the Eagles defense line for a three yard run. Smith would finish the scoring for the Bulldogs as he used a quarterback keeper to spring 42 yards for a rushing touchdown.

“We had a great week of practice and were able to overcome adversity that struck our team this week.” Seipkes said. “The kids didn’t get down and they came out hard against the Eagles.”

OTC’s Smith finished the game with 15 carries for 128 yards rushing and a touchdown, while also adding one by air with 47 yards passing. Trosdahl finished with 14 rushes for 96 yards and a score.

Defensively, the Bulldogs were able to shut down the Eagles and star running back Tyler Patron. Patron had 15 carries for 55 yards in the game.

OTC’s bookends Tyler Ukkelberg and Kaleb Thalmann were a force as they combined for 13 tackles, five assists and five sacks in the win.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday as it celebrates Parent’s Night in Battle Lake as it takes on Browerville at 7 p.m.
