It’s the number of shutouts the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy/Pelican Rapids boys soccer team have on the year after traveling to East Grand Forks on Saturday. It’s also the number of games the Comets have played this year.
The Comets managed to score nine goals against the reeling Green Wave defense in their match up on Saturday. Chris Larsen started the scoring six minutes into the game, with senior Chris Pellegrino lending a hand with the assist.
Five minutes later Sondre Harila found the back of the net off an assist from Kevin Franco.
At the 27 minute mark, it was Larsen again, with another assist going to Franco. A minute later, Franco put one on the board on an assist from Quincy Undseth.
Edger Diaz started the second half off for the Comets with a penalty kick goal at the 47th minute.
Pellegrino took over the offense from there. After recording a hat trick eleven minutes into the team’s previous game against St. John’s Prep, Pellegrino recorded his second in a row, scoring three goals between the 49 and 51 minute mark. Eduardo Urbano assisted on two of the goals and one was unassisted.
Harila scored the final goal for the Comets at the 75th minute. Gjermund Saevig earned the assist.
Keeper Hobert Diaz picked up the shutout between the posts for the Comets. Hillcrest/PR remains undefeated on the year and are now 6-0-1. The Comets played to a tie against North Fargo.
The dominant squad has outscored their opponents 57-0 in its seven games. The Comets have a week to prepare for their biggest challenge of the year, as they travel to St. Cloud next Saturday to take on #5 (1A) Cathedral.
The game will be a rematch of last year’s section quarterfinal game which the Comets lost 1-0. Hillcrest also lost to the Crusaders earlier in the 2012 regular season.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
