Otter bowlers sweep Detroit Lakes meetPublished 8:42am Monday, September 16, 2013
The Fergus Falls High School bowling team traveled to Detroit Lakes on Saturday for their second meet of the season. The varsity and JV1 teams both went 3-0 on the day, with JV2 taking 2 of 3 matches.
The Otter varsity squad came out strong against Perham with three solid 190+ games, and took the match early, finishing up 4-1, while setting their season high series total at 905.
Zack Anderson had a clean 100 percent match, Dylan Huffman filled 83 percent, with Olivia Anderson, Mary Gettel, and Arnold Bolland all at 77 percent.
Fergus swept match two, 5-0, against the BYE, with Bolland leading the way at 87 percent, Olivia Anderson at 77 percent, and Gettel and Hunter Christenson with 75 percent.
Match three against first-place Wadena started out hot with Fergus taking the first two games easily. Games three and four went Wadena’s way, setting up the deciding game five. After a number of games, lane conditions break down and it can be tough to strike. Then, it becomes a matter of who can convert spares. Despite two split-opens early in the final game, the Fergus team went on to cover all eight of their makeable spares, including six in a row to finish out and win the game, and take the match 3-2.
Zack Anderson cleaned up again with another 100 percent game, with Gettel and Wyatt Swanson at 87 percent.
Fergus JV1 had a great meet, as they not only swept their three matches, but took all 15 games on the day. Match one was a 5-0 win against New York Mills, with Casey Thom setting the pace at 77 percent, Hunter Norman at 72 percent, and Allison Krensing with 71 percent.
A 5-0 win against the BYE was next, with Thom putting up a nice 100 percent match, followed by Jacob Halvorson at 75 percent, Ryan Wilson at 70 percent, and Dan Anderson with 62 percent. The third 5-0 sweep of the day was against Wadena. Thom and Kylie Jennen were team high at 66 percent.
The young Otter JV2 team started their day against New York Mills with a nice 4-1 victory. Nolan Booth was a perfect 100 percent for the match, Morgan Christenson had 66 percent, with Spencer Jennen at 60 percent.
JV2 started the second match, against Wadena, by dropping two close games, then came back to take the final three for a great comeback win. John Runningen was team high at 55 percent, with Booth, Levi Danielson, and Josh Johnson at 50 percent.
First-place Detroit Lakes was the final opponent of the meet, and proved to be too much on their home lanes, as JV2 took the loss, 1-4. Jennen and Runningen lead the way at 63 percent and 62 percent, with Danielson, Christenson, and Luke Newkirk all at 50 percent.
The teams next meet will be in Wadena on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
