United Way of Otter Tail County, Perham office, will host a Challenging Behavior In School, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Training from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Perham Area Library.
The workshop will focus on the identification and interventions for interfering and challenging behaviors for students who receive special education services. This session will focus on the critical need for:
• A Functional Behavior Plan (FBA)
• Positive interventions
• A thorough, data based behavior plan
Strategies for alternatives for suspensions and reductions of restraint and seclusions will be discussed.
Parents are encouraged to bring their child’s current evaluations, IEP and behavior plans. There will be opportunities for questions and discussions. Professionals and parents of children who are receiving special education services are invited to attend this IEP Training.
Linda Bonney from the Minnesota Disability Law Center will help you become a strong advocate for your child’s Individualized Education Plan. She is a legal advocate with the Minnesota Disability Law Center. She has been doing special education advocacy work for over 30 years. Linda offers lots of advocacy strategies for families as well as ways to problem-solve issues between families and schools.
