Eagles’ offense shines against Otter boys 9-0Published 9:35am Friday, September 20, 2013
ST. CLOUD – The Fergus Falls Otters hit the road Tuesday to take on St. Cloud Apollo in a Central Lakes Conference match up. While the Otters met the Eagles on the pitch, their biggest battle was against injuries and illness, which gave a number of young Fergus underclassmen playing time. The Otters fell to the Eagles, 9-0.
Apollo had a furry of goals in the first half, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead heading into the half. In the second, the Eagles added three more goals, two of which coming in the final five minutes of the game.
With open spots across the roster, senior keeper Conner Hatfield shared time between the posts with Mitchell Cole in the contest.
Despite the loss, Otter head coach Beau Krueger saw a lot of character in his squad that continues to improve on their game in the final half of the season.
“We never gave up in tonight’s game. We played to the end,” Krueger sad. “Every year about this point of the season, we are battling injuries and, right now, illnesses. This game gave some of our younger players the opportunity to have extended playing time and gain valuable varsity soccer experience.”
The Otters will be back in St. Cloud on Tuesday for another CLC battle against Tech at 7 p.m.
