HAWLEY – The Pelican Rapids volleyball team traveled to Hawley Thursday for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference battle. With an impressive outing, the Nuggets swept the Vikings with three convincing sets.

The Vikings served well throughout the first set, but hitting errors helped the Nuggets to a 25-17 victory.

In the second set, the Vikings struggled at the service line. Middle hitter Madeline Systma also went down after being kneed in the head while diving for a ball and was kept out for the rest of the night.

The injury pushed momentum to the Nuggets’ side as they served out 11 points and took a 25-7 set victory.

The Vikings showed signs of improvement in the third and started to fight their way back, but unforced errors caught up with the team as the Nuggets took the match with a 25-11 final set win.

Lincoln Haiby led the Vikings with four kills. Brianna Harthun had nine digs and Mackenzie Korf notched seven. Ariel Martinson contributed six of her own.

The Vikings are now 0-2 in conference play and travel to Breckenridge on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. duel with the Cowgirls.
