Fergus falls to Rocori in 5 setsPublished 9:19am Friday, September 20, 2013
The Otters suffered two losses Thursday evening. One saw standout hitter Kristin Traiser go down with an ankle injury. The other was a hard fought five-set loss to Rocori 25-20, 19-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-17.
After winning the first set, the Otters struggled after Traiser suffered an injury after coming down from a block attempt. This forced the Otters to run an offense they had not used in match play.
After falling in a close third set, Fergus rallied back to force a fifth and final set.
In the final set, the Otters and Spartans went point for point, but Rocori was able to sneak one extra point to win the game.
“It’s a tough loss,” Otter coach Renee Erickson said. “But for the things that we threw at the kids tonight, I though they did an excellent job. We have nothing to hang out heads about and the experience will make us stronger.”
Brianna Rasmusson had a great night recording 23 kills, 12 digs, three blocks and going 27 of 27 with an ace from the service line.
Teammates Devonie Smith and Laura Gaustad provided the defense as they had 37 and 35 digs, respectively.
The Otters will get a rest before traveling to St. Cloud Tech Thursday for a 7 p.m. CLC game.
