The Fergus Falls girls swimming and diving team played host to a pair of traditional rivals on Thursday night, taking on Moorhead and Detroit Lakes in the Kennedy Secondary School pool. The Otters earned a big win in the triangular, outscoring the two teams with 522 points to Moohead’s 482 and Detroit Lakes’ 375.
It was two firsts once again for Otters senior Abby Fisher as she topped the 100 fly and 100 backstroke events. Emilie Reard matched the two top finishes with her own, taking first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Dani Ross also contributed a first place finish in the 100 freestyle event.
With the victory, the Otters continue to swim well as a team. Its best event on the night was the 100 fly, where it came out with a first, third, fourth and seventh for a total of 46 points.
The tame of Fisher, Reard, Rachel Johnson and Ross took first in the 200 medley relay and Fisher, Caitlyn Colbeck, Reard and Ross took the top spot in the 400 freestyle relay.
Coach Mike Hartwell’s young team of divers continue to improve as well, contributing 16 points to the team score. Camryn Apper led the divers with a sixth place finish, and Chandler Frigaard finished a spot behind in seventh.
“Great win for the Otters,” said head swimming coach Tom Uvaas. “It has been a long time since we last beat Moorhead and the Otters did this with great team scoring, especially in the relays. It was a fun meet because everyone contributed and we had a number of best performances and some great racing and diving.”
The Otters are back in the pool next Thursday when they travel to take on the Brainerd Warriors. Events begin at 6 p.m.
