The Fergus Falls varsity bowling team swept all three matches in Wadena on Sunday, and climbed into a tie atop the West Central North Conference. After starting the year 1-2, the Otters have reeled off six straight match wins.
The first match of the day was a 5-0 win against Perham, with the Otters setting their season high series at 946 for the five games. Olivia Anderson was high fill percentage at 90 percent, with Wyatt Swanson at 83 percent, and Mary Gettel with 82 percent. In match two, New York Mills rolled both their high game and series of the season to date, and took the Otters to a deciding game five. The final game was close until Anderson and Gettel locked it away with four strikes in the ninth and tenth frames, to earn the 3-2 match win. Swanson had a clean 100 percent match, Gettel was at 90 percent, and Hunter Christenson and Arnold Bolland were at 88 percent. The final match of the meet was a 5-0 victory against the bye, with the Otters once again setting their season-high series, rolling a nice 986. Olivia Anderson put up the team’s second clean 100 percent match, with Bolland at 88 percent, and Swanson with 87 percent.
In the JV division, Fergus Falls’ JV1 continued their chase of undefeated Detroit Lakes/Frazee, and stayed within one game by winning all three of their matches. Fergus JV1 squared off with Fergus JV2 in match one, with JV1 coming out with a 5-0 win. Ryan Wilson led the way with a 90 percent fill rate, with Casey Thom and Jacob Halvorson at 75 percent. New York Mills’ JV proved to be tough competition as well, as just like the varsity match, the JV duel came down to the last game. Dan Anderson, with three strikes in the tenth frame, put away the win for JV1. Anderson and Thom were team high at 77 percent with Allison Krensing at 62 percent. Match three was a 5-0 win against the bye with Halvorson scoring a clean 100 percent match, with Anderson at 87 percent and Kylie Jennen at 72 percent.
Luke Newkirk set the pace for Fergus Falls’ JV2 in their match against practice partners, JV1, at 75 percent. John Runningen was second at 62 percent. Undefeated DL/Frazee was next up for JV2, and the 7th and 8th graders got off to an exciting start by winning game one by a single pin. DL/Frazee then returned the favor by taking game two by one pin. JV2 hung with first place DL/Frazee, but didn’t have quite enough, and dropped the match 4-1. Nolan Booth filled at 83 percent Josh Johnson had 75 percent with Runningen at 62 percent. JV2 came up a little short in match three against the home team, Wadena, taking the loss 2-3. Ronnie Becker, Booth, Newkirk, and Johnson all shared the lead at 50 percent.
