Tigers too much for visiting Otters [UPDATED]Published 9:48am Wednesday, September 25, 2013 Updated 9:49am Wednesday, September 25, 2013
ST. CLOUD – Five first half goals helped the St. Cloud Tech Tigers push past the visiting Fergus Falls Otters at Husky Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Tigers dominated the first half, controlling the ball and keeping it in the Otters’ half. The offense was just too much for Fergus to handle, and the Tigers went into halftime with a 5-0 lead.
It was a different story in the second half, however, as the Otters regained composure and matched Tech’s play. Despite giving up two more goals, the Otters created several scoring opportunities that they were unable to follow through with.
Tech’s two additional goals in the 59th and 74th minutes finished off the Otters with a final score of 7-0. The Tigers had six different players score on the night.
“We have been working on not allowing a quick second goal immediately following a goal. We are improving on this,” said Otter head coach Beau Krueger. “I thought we played a great second half. If we played like that the entire game, it would have been a very different outcome. There were three scoring chances the second half that I thought were going in, and should have gone in. We will continue to work on finishing in practice Wednesday.”
“The players’ attitude shifted after a little encouragement at halftime,” added assistant Otter coach Ethan Townsend. “I love to see them able to continue to work hard and make changes regardless of the score of the game.”
The Otters are back home on Thursday when they face the Willmar Cardinals at 5 p.m.
