BATTLE LAKE — Trading attacks back-and-forth, the hosting Battlers were able to best the Ashby Arrows 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 15-9 Tuesday.
The Arrows were able to take the first set from Battle Lake, but the Battlers stormed back to win the next two sets.
The Little Eight Conference game turned into a battle as the Arrows won the fourth set, setting up a fifth and final set.
After the dust cleared in the final set, the Battlers were able to hold on to the conference victory.
“Wow what a night in Battle Lake,” Ashby coach Andrea Knick exclaimed. “It was a great match on both sides of the net, and a fun one to watch too. The Arrows played hard from beginning to end, but came up short in the 5th game.”
Madison VanSanten led the Arrow girls in assists with 17, while Amber Sundal was on fire from the service line going 26-for-26 with seven aces.
Emily Marso and Maddy Merickel were on the attack for the Battlers as they batted in 20 and 16 kills, respectively.
The Battlers will continue its home stand as it hosts Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, while the Arrows look to end its recent slide as it travels to take on Brandon-Evansville 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
