With several hard fought matches, the Brandon-Evansville Chargers were able to leave Fergus Falls with a win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16 Tuesday.
The Chargers were looking to jump out to a good start in this Little Eight Conference bout and did so winning the first set. The Comets were able to match its visitors intensity in the second set as it captured the second set.
Brandon-Evansville was able to regroup in the third set and followed with a nine-point win in the fourth.
“Tonight was a big success on many levels but for sure our best start to a game,” Comet coach Dessica Veum said. “The girls played intense from the very beginning.”
Laura Tungseth led the attack for the Comets with 12 kills, while teammate Holly Salvesen knocked in nine of her own.
“This was another close match for us tonight,” Charger coach Kelly Olson said. “Hillcrest played very well and kept a lot of ball alive tonight. They chased everything down and got quite a few of them back to our side.”
Mariah Hansen had a good night from the service line going 20 of 22 with four aces, while teammate Caroline Jensen delivered 16 kills in the win.
The Comets will now travel to take on Battle Lake in a 7:30 p.m. Thursday LEC showdown, while the Chargers will host another LEC opponent in Ashby 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
