Tigers second half goal edges Otters 2-1Published 9:50am Wednesday, September 25, 2013
A goal with just 20 minutes left in their game Tuesday night lifted the visiting St. Cloud Tech Tigers past the Fergus Falls girls soccer team.
With the score knotted at a 0-0 tie after both teams went back and forth in the first half, Tech broke through for the first score of the game three minutes into the second half. Attacking the right side of the Otter defense, the Tigers found on open player on the back side of the frame who knocked the ball into the goal.
It only took nine minutes for the Otters to respond, however. After some miscommunication from the Tech defenders, Otter Lauren Norgren took the ball at the top of the 18 and hit the near post, sending the ball into the goal.
Tech broke through again minutes later, increasing their lead 2-1 with just 18 minutes left in the game. The Otters saw some chances to tie in the last moments of the game, but couldn’t find the equalizer.
Bother teams had six shots on goal. Keeper Sydney Kuehl made four saves on the night.
The Otters are 3-8 on the year and travel to Crookston on Saturday to face the Pirates at 1 p.m. A win against Crookston could secure a home game for the Otters in the playoffs.
