NYM resident allegedly sexually assaults child [UPDATED]Published 10:51am Thursday, September 26, 2013 Updated 12:52pm Thursday, September 26, 2013
A New York Mills man who allegedly sexually assaulted a young child was charged with four felonies in Otter Tail County District Court.
John Jacob Heinonen, 26, was charged Sept. 23 with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, all felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, Heinonen watched the child from 4 p.m. Sept. 19 until 3:10 a.m. Sept. 20 while the child’s mother was at work. The mother reportedly noticed blood in the child’s diaper later that day and went to the hospital. Perham Memorial Hospital reported the child’s injuries to authorities.
When interviewed by authorities, Heinonen said he was the only one with the child the day before. When asked about the child’s injuries, Heinonen made a comment about diaper rash, the report says. He reportedly denied any involvement in the child’s injuries.
Heinonen’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 7.
