Quality Toyota Sports Spotlight: Abby FisherPublished 11:14am Thursday, September 26, 2013
If you’ve read a story on the Fergus Falls girls swimming team lately, you’ve probably seen “1st” next to the name Fisher.
Senior Abby Fisher competed last year at the state meet and earned All-State honors, finishing eighth in the 100 backstroke at the Class A level. She also took 15th in the 100 butterfly.
Fisher hopes to continue in the pool when she leaves for college, but plans on helping children in the speech pathology field.
I talked with Fisher about her busy life in pool and her life outside of the sport.
Q: How long have you been swimming?
A: Since I was five.
Q: What is your training regimen been like for swimming?
A: We have summer swim every morning in the summer for two hours and I lift weights on my own.
Q: Do you have an idea of where you want to go to college?
A: I want to swim and I want to do speech pathology, but I don’t really know where.
Q: What do you want to do when you get older?
A: I would like to go in to speech pathology because I love working with kids. I shadowed some speech pathologists this summer and it was really interesting. I just liked helping them with simple things like talking and stuff like that.
Q: What do you like studying in high school?
A: Not much having to do with that, but I’ve been doing more business stuff and trying new things.
Q: Do you have a favorite teacher?
A: Cindi Appert
Q: What have you liked most in school?
A: I like the variety of things that they offer here. I’m in the school store class, so I think that is really neat.
Q: What else do you do in school?
A: I’m on the Math team and NHS. I’m in band and choir. I play trombone in wind ensemble and then I’m in Bel Canto.
Q: What do you like to do outside of school?
A: Well, swimming takes up a lot of time. [Laughs] But I teach swimming lessons, help out with stuff at church and my sister, my brother and I like to watch White Collar. It’s a crime show.
Q: Is that your favorite television show?
A: At the moment. It all kind of changes with whatever is on Netflix.
Q: Do you have a favorite genre?
A: I like the crime shows. I like the intensity of those. But I also like the funny ones, like the Big Bang Theory.
Q: What is one thing that people don’t know about you?
A: I have a scar on my forehead kind of like Harry Potter, which I’m pretty proud of. [Laughs]
Q: Are you a big fan of the Harry Potter series?
A: Oh, absolutely.
Q: What else do you like to read?
A: I like reading everything, just getting a taste for everything.
