BRAINERD – The Fergus Falls Otters girls swim team traveled to Brainerd on Thursday night to face a Warriors team that is undefeated in the Central Lakes Conference. The Warriors defended that record, outpacing the Otters to a score of 115 to 62.
Senior Abby Fisher left the pool with a top finish in the 100 back (1:03.01) and a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:25.02). The team’s other senior captain Ahna Van Valkenburg swam to a best time in the 100 free and had a nice performance in the 200 IM.
Emilie Reard continued to swim strong with a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.88) and a time of 1:00.23 that earned a third place in the 100 free.
Dani Ross contributed a second place finish in the 50 free (26.80) and Summer Kalenberg finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.62.
The Otter relay teams continued to swim strong, earning top finishes in two events.
The team of Caitlyn Colbeck, Hattie Koeckeritz, Emery Jade and Rachel Johnson finished first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:56.07) and Ingrid Nycklemoe, Emily Hauck, Erika Bauer and Van Valkenburg finished a spot behind with a time of 2:07.50.
In the 400 free relay, Fisher, Colbeck, Reard and Ross took first place, finishing at 4:01.52. Caitlin Hexum, Emery, Hauck and Kalenberg finished in second (4:26.66).
The Otters finished with 12 best times on the night.
“Brainerd has probably one of their best teams ever,” said Otter head coach Tom Uvaas. “Again, we are proud of the improvements of this young team and now we will turn our focus on the Otter Invite Saturday.”
The Otters host their home invitational this Saturday. Swimmers hit the pool starting at 11 p.m.
