City and school leaders prepare for joint meeting [UPDATED]Published 6:26am Monday, September 30, 2013 Updated 12:17pm Monday, September 30, 2013
The Fergus Falls City Council and School Board will host an informal meeting Monday evening to update each other on the happenings for both groups.
One of the agenda items for Monday’s meeting is an update on the library renewal project.
A task force came together last year to determine how people are using the library and if changes need to be made.
Library Director Erin Smith will not be making any recommendations at the meeting. Instead, she will be presenting the council and school board with an updated timeline. A recommendation is expected to be offered to the board in a few months.
The other three items on the agenda are discussion about the city budget, the school’s athletic facilities and technology in the City Council Chambers. For council member Anthony Hicks, the updates on school board items should prove beneficial.
“Ultimately, it should be helpful for both parties,” Hicks said. “We’ll see what Monday brings.”
Public Schools Business Manager Mark Masten has attended four or five of these joint meetings.
“It’s a very informal meeting,” Masten said. “It’s really just a meeting so that both sides can learn what the other side is doing.”
No actions will be taken at the meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
