Hillcrest boys win big, let in first goalPublished 10:42am Monday, September 30, 2013
It was another big win for the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy/Pelican Rapids boys soccer team on Saturday at home against East Grand Forks, as it took a 9-1 victory over the Green Wave.
Chris Larsen started the scoring early with a goal at the two-minute mark. Gjermond Saevig added a goal off a rebound from a shot by teammate Eduardo Urbano.
The Green Wave cut the Comet lead in half 25 minutes into the game off a corner kick.
Chris Pellegrino answered with a goal nine minutes later, however and would score again at 36 minutes. The two goals gave the Comets a 4-1 lead at halftime.
Pellegrino notched his third goal for the hat trick at 51 minutes. Kevin Franco scored on a penalty kick at 62 minutes after Pellegrino was taken down in the box. Three minutes after, Pellegrino added his fourth goal off a pass from Sondra Harila. Senior Caleb Mathison and Eduardo Urbano added the final two goals in the game, giving the Comets the 9-1 victory.
East Grand Forks’ goal in the first half marks the first time the Comets have given up a score this year. Despite ending his team’s streak, Coach Rod Jensen said after the game that the goal might be a positive for his team.
“With a goal finally scored on [us], the pressure is off for repeated shut out performances,” Jensen said. “We can now focus our attention to remainder of the regular season and then post season competition. The corner kick goal against us definitely points out an area for team improvement going forward.”
The Comets hit the road for a 7 p.m. game Thursday against Detroit Lakes.
