It was a day chock-full of competition Saturday as the Fergus Falls girls swim team hosted four tough teams for the Otter Invite, including one of the top Class A teams in Visitation School out of Mendota Heights who set five different pool records.
The Blazers took the top spot with a dominant score of 543. The Otters finished second with a score of 293, almost 50 points ahead of North St. Paul, who finished third with 249.
Emilie Reard earned two second place finishes for the Otters in the 200 IM (2:26.65) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.26). Abby Fisher took second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.37) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:03.51).
The Otters had success in relay events as well. The team of Fisher, Reard, Rachel Johnson and Dani Ross took second in the 200 medley relay (1:57.91). Fisher, Reard, Ross and Caitlyn Colbeck finished third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:59.33).
“Our effort and individual time drops were positives for the Otters,” said Otter head coach Tom Uvaas. “They never got discouraged competing against one of the fastest teams in Minnesota. The divers again are really progressing. With how young we are in both age and experience we had a great afternoon.”
The Otters are back in action again at 6 p.m on Thursday when they travel to take on Alexandria.
