Perham teams finish big at Griak InvitePublished 10:26am Monday, September 30, 2013
There was light rain, mud and tough competition Saturday as the Perham boys and girls cross country team competed in the Roy Griak Invitational, but it didn’t slow the Yellowjackets down. Up against some of the best talent in the country, the boys finished seventh with a score of 303 and the girls finished 35th with 860.
Keeghan Hurley led the boys team, finishing in sixth place with a time of 15:48. Jayden Cullen finished 42nd (16:43) and Billy Beseman finished just behind his teammate in 46th (16:46). Ben Sullivan and Chris Knutson rounded out the top five in 120th (17:23) and 127th (17:26), respectively.
In the girls race, Lizzie Fudge ran the top spot for the Yellowjackets, finishing 101st with a time of 20:25. Brynnan Covington finished 113th (20:36) and Syd Karels finished 208th (21:25). Jenna Wegscheid and Mary Riestenberg rounded out the top five with finishes of 262nd (21:55) and 278th (22:01), respectively.
With the times, the boys beat every other Minnesota team in the field from Class A and AA. The boys are ranked #1 (A) in the state and the girls #3 (A).
The Yellowjackets host 20 teams at their home meet on Thursday in Perham.
