Pirates pillage Arrows 62-8Published 10:31am Monday, September 30, 2013
VERNDALE – The Verndale Pirates showed once again on Saturday why it is one of the toughest area nine-man football teams with a 62-8 win over the Ashby Arrows.
The Arrows only score of the game came in the third quarter when quarterback Blake Ohren ran the ball in from a yard out.
Ohren led the Arrow offense, going 8-16 for 72 yards. He also gained 10 yards on the ground along with the touchdown.
Hunter Fick led the Arrow defense with 11.5 sacks.
The Pirates moved the ball at will, accumulating 458 yards of total offense.
“I know this may sound crazy but I thought our team played very hard tonight,” said Arrow head coach Jeff Risbrudt. “Many times throughout the game our defense had Verndale at 3rd and 5, but Verndale kept converting every time. It eventually wore our guys down.”
With the loss, the Arrows fall to 1-4 on the year. Ashby hosts Bertha-Hewitt at 7 p.m. on Friday.
