More than 200 people attended the outdoor morning worship service, the noon potluck and afternoon program celebrating the 140th anniversary of the founding of Immanuel of West Friberg, St. John’s of Elizabeth and Trinity of Fergus Falls.

The Rev. Dan Domke of Huron, S.D., (formerly the pastor of St. John’s and Trinity churches) preached the sermon with the Revs. Noel Herr, of Immanuel, and Curtis Deterding of Trinity, assisting in the service.

The Rev. Wally Larson of St. John’s was unable to attend.

A mass choir directed by Mary Jo Schwarz sang “Celebrate.” Merla Freng, Rita Hillman, and Bonnie Johnson furnished the music.

The afternoon program was opened by Deterding, and historical information was presented by Dawn Godel of St. John’s, Marion Erlandson of Trinity and the Rev.David Cloeter, former member of Immanuel.

The Rev. Roger Lange of Trinity closed the day with prayer.

Many dedicated pastors spent much time bringing the word of God to the hungry souls in this area.

The mission-minded church of Waconia, sent the Rev. Henry Vetter to search out Lutherans in this area and on Aug. 10, 1873. He installed the Rev. Rob Winkler as the pastor of the group that had been gathering in the Friberg area.
