Area teams compete at Milaca Mega Meet

MILACA — The Fergus Falls cross country team participated in one of the biggest meets of the season Saturday in the Milaca Mega Meet.

The meet welcomed in over 86 different schools and was broken up into four classes as both boys and girls races packed the day.

Connor Danielson continues to have a great season as he finished sixth for the Otter boys out of 140 runners, with a time of 16:23.3. Jake Jennen also had an impressive showing finishing in 19th (17:12).

The Otter boys finished in 15th in Class AAA as Austin Gendron, Travis Seidel, Steve Harrington, Hayden Devorak and Joe Kitzman all had season bests.

Competing in Class AAAA, the Perham Yellowjacket boys finished in second, 14 points behind winner Stillwater.

Perham’s Keeghan Hurley continues to rack up first place finishes as he took the top spot with 15:33.4. Teammates Billy Beseman (11th, 16:16.7), Jayden Cullen (12th, 16:23.8) and Ben Sullivan (20th, 16:38.9) all finished under 17 minutes against top tier schools.

In class A, Pelican Rapids finished seventh and Otter Tail Central placed 14th in the 31 team race.

Luke Himmelspach of Otter Tail Central finished in eighth with a time of 16:58.7, while Pelican Rapids was led by Mahad Aden (21st, 17:40.7).

In the girls race, the Otters were running with an incomplete team, but continued to compete on the individual level. Paige Larson led the way for the Fergus Falls girls as she finished in 35th place (16:06.3), while teammates McKenna Hatlewick (82nd, 17:25.5), Kayla Jarrandson (84th, 17:28.2) and Josie Schmidt (97th, 18:02.3) all broke the top 100.

The Perham Yellowjacket girls were able to take home a win in Class A, edging Lac qui Parle Valley – Dawson/Boyd.

Brynnan Covington finished in seventh for Perham with a time of 15:33.7.

In Class A, Pelican Rapids’ Tianna Wald finished in seventh with a time of 15:41.1 as the Vikings finished in 10th out of 28 teams.

Otter Tail Central’s girls ran as an incomplete team as Emily Erlandson (127th, 18:39) and Paige Weber (137th, 18:59.1).
