WILLMAR – Depth and a strong freestyle event helped the Willmar Cardinals defend their home pool Tuesday night, as they took a dual meet against the Fergus Falls girls swimming and diving team, 108-76.

Abby Fisher continued to swim well this season, taking two first place finish in the 100 fly and the 100 back.

Emilie Reard finished with second place in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Dani Ross contributed seconds in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Off the diving board, eighth-grader Camryn Appert placed fourth with a score of 130.85.

The Otters also earned two first place finishes in relay events. The team of FIsher, Reard, Summer Kalenberg and Ross took first in the 200 medley. Fisher, Caitlyn Colbeck, Reard and Ross also earned first in the 400 freestyle.

“We told the girls after the meet that there were more positives than negatives; a number of great races, a number of best times and we learned a lot about some new relay combinations,” head Otter swimming coach Tom Uvaas said.

The Otters are back in their home pool on Thursday when they compete against Moorhead and Detroit Lakes in a triangular. The meet begins at 6 p.m.
